Here is a medal that is somewhat overlooked. Lets see other examples, this one is in it's original case and is not halmarked that I can see.

A beautiful example & you're right, an often overlooked piece. That adler is fantastic looking by itself. Were they awarded for any particular branch of the armed services or were they a civil service type award?

Very true, these are somewhat overlooked. I've yet to add one to my own collection.....

With what I've seen of your cache, it surpises me greatly that there's anything you need

Fritziii, a medal that in my opinion should be considered very rare. With not a lot written about them.
Have noted numerous differences among examples posted here and there. Some being maker differences and some being fakes.
Differences noted are swastika alignment, rim details, lettering differences, eagles and Mint marks.

My understanding would be that the Mint marked pieces were official awards with the unmarked being private purchase or display pieces.

My unmarked example has a tombac base metal with a highly polished surface with frosted eagle and leaves, and does not scan.

Also hope to see more examples and to learn more.

This isn't the type with ribbon so hope no one minds but here's my non portable one with prussian mint marking. I love the look of the eagles on these pieces. Does the collecting community have a preference for which one is collected more, the ribbon one or the non portable type? Am I correct in thinking that the medallion type was awarded for something less than an actual lifesaving?

Bill, on page 65 of For F�hrer and Fatherland, Political & Civil Awards Of The Third Reich by: LTC John R. Angolia, the following text. [A non-portable award of identical design (but not suspended from a ribbon), measuring 50mm, was awarded under the same criteria for lifesaving of a lesser degree.]

Fritziii, the case shown on page 66 of the same volume is more square in shape to accommodate the larger size. It shows the smaller push button type release button and is marked to Deschler & Sohn Munchen 9.

Thanks Joe & Fritzii. Fritziii,unfortunately it does not have a case. I'm no good at prices of stuff but it does seem to me that a case for an item lots of times seems to add a good deal to it...worth the difference in price just to have an original case? I find myself preferring cased items nowadays just for the aesthetics of it but if it's way out of bounds just for having the case, no I'll wait or not buy it. I do notice that fairly high prices for these medallion types are asked but I don't think they are big sellers.
