Hi guys, Can anyone ID these two unmarked subs? I'm trying to ascertain who made each. These are the only photos available right now.
Thanks, Tom

#1 looks like mine and I feel it is a Klein & Quenzer. #2 still looking.

The second one has me stumped for now. Note how the prop shaft extends part way under the rudder.

Thank you Paul. Both have been offered to me and are about the and there's only a difference of $50 in price. Any reccomendations on which one is a sounder purchase based on the totality of the badges?
Thanks again, Tom

I actually like number two. I think it has better detail and a scarcer maker assuming it is by whom I think it is.

Tom, the second example has the characteristics of an F.& B. L.
Paul, the French badges had a distinctive hinge.

Thank you guys for the comments. Everyone seems to agree the 1st is a K&Q, which attracts me. Appearantly it's an easily recognizeable piece and as such, there is no debate to it. A safer bet all in all, even though it doesn't have quite as much gilt as the 2nd example.
Thank you again and informative as well. I've learned alot over the last week or so.

I found a thread from about 4 years ago discussing the 2nd badge. It was suggested that it's an unmarked Funcke and Bruninghaus by some other collectors as well. Took some searching but that's what I found.

Tom, I'm sorry, thought you had stopped looking at these. I could have posted a link for you. F.& B. L. is the only one that matched to my eyes. Trouble with unmarked badges and period parts swaping you can never be 100% positive. Could be an unknown maker with F.& B. L. charateristics. Still a nice accepted style. --dj--Joe

Hi Joe- I actually am done. I bought the K&Q from the seller. He bought both from Gordon many years back, but hadn't identified them till a few years back on another forum. He didn't recall who they were made by as he's a visor guy, not a badge guy. AFter some research, I had found his threads from some years ago, after I had posted here, and the responses from other collectors were in agreeance with your assessments on maker. The K&Q arrived actually today and came at a good price, and is an accepted piece that won't require any debate on authenticity.
I had also purchased that Shuco destroyer I had posted to replace my other destroyer. My first destroyer, although was cheap, left more questions than answers. Peace of mind is priceless.

Tom, that is a nice example. Good lighting to the picture too. That's closer to what mine should look like. My obverse image came out too shiny. My examples gold is a little paler, reverse is pretty close to true. http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/800097573/m/3380025445I should try again and replace my old images. Please should you get the opportunity add yours to our poor u-boat thread. --dj--Joe

Thanks Joe. I went for the "show 'er as she is" photo. Light can be manipulated to make her look giltier, which serves nobody, but the owners ego. This is her, what's left of her gilting, and what she is. Nothing great, but meets my need and was affordable. I couldn't drop $800 on a nice Schwerin example.

Here's another photo of her. Using a black background and different light, seems to bring out the gilt a bit better than the previous photo. Interesting how different photos can make a piece look aesthetically better or worse.
JR's a great example. He could probably photo a piece of turd and make it look collectible.

Good close up. I have to try mine again. Might attempt a scan but so far my scanner has an aversion to gold and bronze items.

Joe, I know what you mean. My scanner has the same issues as well. In order to effectively use the scanner to capture images, you probably will need to tweak the settings then possibly hit the image with some editing software. It took some time, but I eventually found the best way to utilize my dig camera for images.

What is everyones thought on the Baqueville French badges? Since badges are newer to me, the whole baqu debate made for some interesting reading on another forum. The overall concensus is that the pieces are pre '45 and legitimate examples. Does everyone generally agree with that? Knowing what I know now, i'd definitely steer clear of the badges, simply because of the debate associated with them. I must say though, some are nice looking pieces.

Whether in the end they prove to be good or bad I have no interest in them at all.

Yep. From what I now know, it seems risky. I must say, some really have a nice look to them. But i'd still avoid them at my badge collector level.
